My mother loved reciting this poem - indeed, she loved everything a.a. Milne. Living in Philadelphia, this is what I imagine the "edge of town" looks like.
PS. Speaking of Mom, I've noticed I have a regular visitor from Menlo Park, CA, which is where she went to high school and I spent much of my summers as a child.
